From Gogglebox to Academia: Ava-Grace Moffatt's Unexpected Career Path
Scarlett Moffatt rose to fame as a beloved member of the Moffatt family on Channel 4's hit show Gogglebox, but her younger sister Ava-Grace has since charted a completely different course. While Scarlett continues to shine in the spotlight, including a return to I'm A Celebrity South Africa in 2026, Ava-Grace is now focused on academic pursuits far removed from the television industry.
The Moffatt Family's Gogglebox Journey and Departure
The Moffatt family, consisting of Scarlett, her parents Betty and Mark, and younger sister Ava-Grace, joined Gogglebox in 2014. Ava-Grace made her debut on the show at just seven years old, appearing briefly alongside her family. However, in 2016, Scarlett left the programme to compete in and win that year's series of I'm A Celebrity. The following year, Scarlett revealed that the entire family had been dropped from Gogglebox, a decision that left them all gutted.
Expressing their disappointment on social media, Scarlett shared a photo from the National Television Awards with a heartfelt message. She wrote, We are going to miss doing #gogglebox so so much but can't wait to watch the new series. In response to a fan's comment, Scarlett added, We are gutted too, thought my Mam and dad (and little Ava) would still be able to do it but we will still be watching.
Ava-Grace's Transition to Adulthood and New Ambitions
Now, years after their Gogglebox exit, Scarlett has provided fans with an update on her sister's life. In 2024, to celebrate Ava-Grace's 18th birthday, Scarlett took to Instagram to share a series of photos tracing her sister's growth from infancy to adulthood. Despite their 15-year age gap, Scarlett emphasised their close bond and praised Ava-Grace's development into a kind, intelligent, and hilarious individual.
Most notably, Scarlett revealed that Ava-Grace is pursuing a university degree in archaeology, a field starkly different from the entertainment world. In her birthday tribute, Scarlett encouraged her sister to keep wearing your quirky earrings like the ones that are little goldfishes in a bag or fried eggs & go and smash studying archaeology at university. She also humorously noted her excitement that Ava-Grace can now join her for brunches, highlighting the shift in their relationship as Ava-Grace enters adulthood.
Contrasting Careers: Scarlett's Ongoing TV Success vs. Ava-Grace's Academic Focus
While Ava-Grace immerses herself in archaeological studies, Scarlett Moffatt remains a prominent figure on television. Her career has flourished since Gogglebox, with ongoing appearances in shows like I'm A Celebrity, keeping her in the public eye. This divergence underscores how family members from reality TV backgrounds can pursue vastly different paths, with Ava-Grace choosing education and a specialised profession over fame.
The Moffatt family's story reflects broader trends in how reality TV stars and their relatives navigate post-show life. For Ava-Grace, it's a journey into academia, while Scarlett continues to build her brand in entertainment. Gogglebox itself airs every Friday at 9pm on Channel 4, but for the Moffatts, that chapter has firmly closed, making way for new adventures.
