Coleen and Wayne Rooney recreated the iconic Dirty Dancing lift in their new Disney+ docuseries, The Real Rooneys. The celebrity couple are following in the footsteps of the likes of the Beckhams and the Furys, as they launched their Disney+ series.
Surprise 40th birthday in the Cotswolds
Coleen and Wayne allowed the cameras to capture Wayne’s surprise 40th birthday in the Cotswolds, last October. Now the couple have their own show, we get to see what really went on at the birthday party.
At the time it was reported that Wayne dressed up as Queen’s Freddie Mercury at a fancy dress bash to mark his 40th - and sang hits by the band. The pair, who have been wed for 18 years, revealed their fun-loving nature as they belted out karaoke tunes and partied into the early hours.
Karaoke and family moments
“I don't think Wayne would be Wayne if he didn't do Karaoke,” Coleen quipped. Coleen added: “The whole weekend everyone was just relaxed and happy, just enjoying it which is everything I wanted.”
“For three days we just switched off and had a good time, she done really well and more than I expected for my 40th,” Wayne sweetly said.
The couple have been in the spotlight for decades, but during an appearance on The One Show on Wednesday, 23 September, they revealed why now felt like the right time to star in their own show.
Why now for the docuseries
“We just felt it was the right time as a family,” Coleen began. “But also, we’ve had a taste of cameras being in our house because we’ve both done documentaries, so we’ve had a taste of that.”
“Also today, a lot of people play their lives out on social media, on TikTok and different platforms, it’s not unusual. When you think of back in the day, when people did home series, it wasn’t normal that they would open doors but I do feel now, a bit more comfortable. All the kids are at that age, where we thought, we can have a go at this.” She then admitted: “It was challenging at times!”
Wayne went on: “Everything, how we live our lives, was on it. There’s moments where I’ve had a night out, for instance, and I don’t get up out of bed and Coleen’s having a go at me. Them moments I was thinking, I wish the cameras weren’t here. But the kids, kids are always honest, they’ll tell the truth.
“When the kids were fighting, there’s emotional moments when the kids, where one of us is sitting down and having a real, intimate conversation with them, there’s times where we’re singing and dancing, so it’s us. That’s what it is, we wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t us and and relatable to everyone watching.”
