Romesh Ranganathan has admitted feeling embarrassed after being reminded of an "odd" remark he made during the latest episode of The Celebrity Traitors. The 48-year-old comedian appeared on his BBC Radio 2 programme on Saturday morning, where colleague Sally Boazman quizzed him about several puzzling moments from the series so far.
No memory of the comment
During episode two, the celebrities took part in a mission in a graveyard, where they could shield one another from the Traitors' next murder and increase the prize fund. Sally played a clip of Romesh saying, "Oh let's go and make some money... ooh, why did I say that?" She described the comment as "a bit of an odd thing to say."
Romesh agreed, saying "Yep, immediate regret," before revealing he had no recollection of making the remark until the clip was played. He then explained: "Ok, can I tell you why I said that? Because it's just such an eggy thing to say, 'let's raise some money, guys!' It's just so embarrassing!" Sally added, "I tell you what, it was the 'guys' at the end," as the pair laughed.
Friendship a 'weakness' in the game
Romesh also addressed a moment with fellow comedian Rob Beckett, where the two appeared to lean in for a kiss. He joked about strategies, saying, "Before I went into the castle, I was looking at strategies and stuff like that, and one of the things is, you can tell someone's a Traitor from a full-on tongue kiss... no, I'm joking!" He admitted that his close friendship with Rob "is a weakness" in the game, adding, "There's an advantage in some ways, but once you're in the game, it's difficult."
The presenter, competing as a Faithful, also reacted to a listener's message about his dance when he found out he had immunity with Ross Kemp. He confessed, "Now, I, umm, I regret that dance, can I be honest with you?" Sally agreed, "It wasn't your finest moment, I don't think." Romesh revealed that "a lot of people came up to me afterwards and said, 'you know you're being filmed doing that?'"
Life inside the castle
Asked whether the castle is "really posh inside," Romesh quipped, "It's almost as posh, I would say, as my home." The Celebrity Traitors continues on Thursday October 8 from 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
