Prince Harry's recent public appearances raise concerns
Prince Harry is dropping hints about what his future could look like, and if I were King Charles, let's just say I would be very nervous, writes royal reporter Jasmine Carey.
Last week alone, Harry appeared on a podcast and on TV. Two very public appearances for a man who doesn't like cameras. And in each one, Harry revealed a humorous and open side to him that we have seen very rarely over the past few years.
Harry's open remarks on podcast and TV
In fact, telling us on the Joe Marler Will See You Now podcast that he likes to "sh*t, shower, shave" was probably too open. Likewise, Harry showed no sign of holding himself back from talking about his life on Fifa World Cup on Fox After Hours with James Corden on Sunday. He didn't say anything damaging - luckily - but he was more than happy to talk about his life as a child, especially his time at Eton.
Again, nothing significant was mentioned. However, a podcast appearance and a TV appearance all in the same week? I think it shows us what path Harry could be taking. The prince is clearly paving his way in the world of all things podcast and TV, or at least trying to anyway.
Risk to royal reconciliation
While this would make sense (I mean, we all like listening to his stories, right?), it also raises some concerns. Concerns about just how open Harry will be, concerns that the Royal Family could be in his firing line again - just like they were when he did interviews and TV appearances in the years directly after leaving royal life.
It would cause mayhem for the monarchy all over again, just when Harry seems to have finally cooled down on his criticisms of his family. In fact, he has even seen his father a few times recently, with the latest being just weeks ago. This would have seemed unimaginable a few years ago.
The problem we have now is, will Harry's new podcast and TV appearances - and any upcoming ones - result in the reconciliation that has been happening between the King and his son being destroyed? All it takes is for Harry to slip up and reveal one private moment, one confidential snippet of information, and it could all be destroyed. The trust could be lost again.
So if I were the King, I would be nervous to see Harry speaking on these public platforms. Not because I think he would intentionally cause problems for the royals anymore, but because there is a risk he could reveal too much about the world's most famous family, and stir up the same problems from years ago. All we can do is sit and wait to see how it pans out.
