Michelle Keegan's The Blame finale sparks second series demand

Michelle Keegan's return to ITV in the six-part drama The Blame ended on Sunday (October 4) with a cliffhanger, prompting viewers to flood social media demanding more episodes.

The Stockport-born actress, who grew up in Salford, played DI Emma Crane in the series based on the 2023 thriller of the same name by Charlotte Langley. It marked her first ITV role since 2017. Her co-star Douglas Booth, known for The Sandman and The Dirt, portrayed DI Tom Radley.

The detective duo, based at the fictional Wakestead Police Station, investigated the death of a teenage figure skater. The series "dives into secrets, suspicion and systemic corruption - all under the surface of a seemingly quiet town".

Next role in Netflix's The Woods

As one project ends, Keegan has already been busy working on her next TV role. It was announced earlier this year that she will lead the cast of Harlan Coben's next offering for Netflix, following her praised role in Fool Me Once in 2024.

On Monday (October 5), Keegan shared a photo on her Instagram Story of her trailer, confirming her character's name, Lucy Silverfield, and that the project is The Woods, produced by Manchester-based Quay Street Productions.

According to Netflix, the story follows Paul 'Cope' Copeland, whose sister Camille vanished from a summer camp in the woods 20 years ago. Now a barrister and single father, his past resurfaces when the body of a man supposedly murdered alongside Camille turns up, giving credence to the theory she may have made it out of the woods alive.

Tom Bateman, who has appeared in Hedda, Funny Woman and Murder on the Orient Express, takes the leading role of Paul alongside Keegan as Lucy. Other confirmed cast includes James Buckley, Tom Allen, Tracy-Ann Oberman, Mandeep Dhillon, Pearce Quigley, Kerry Howard and Rade Sherbedgia.
