Meghan Markle is likely to hate one thing when Princess Catherine becomes Queen, a royal expert has said. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, quit royal life six years ago and doesn't seem to miss it. During this time, and even before, Meghan reportedly began experiencing fractured relationships with members of her husband's family, including Princess Catherine, with their rumoured bridesmaid dress row well reported. It is believed that the sisters-in-law no longer talk to one another and haven't for some time.
Power Balance at the Core
Speaking about their relationship, royal expert Jennie Bond said she thinks the problem between them was that Meghan did not like that Catherine was a more senior royal than she was. Bond told New Magazine: "I think a key problem in any relationship between them is the power balance. Catherine is a future queen - she will always take priority over Meghan."
The expert continued: "One day, the duchess will have to curtsey to her, and we know that Meghan finds that rather comically absurd."
Meghan's Views on Curtseying
Meghan is not known to be a fan of curtseying, having spoken about her confusion over it on the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan. In the series, Prince Harry revealed the late Queen was the first senior member of the Royal Family to meet Meghan. The Duchess explained: "I didn't know I was going to meet her until moments before. We were in the car, and we were going to Royal Lodge for lunch, and [Harry] was like, 'Oh, my grandmother is here, she's gonna be there after church.' We were in the car, driving, and he's like, 'You know how to curtsy, right?' - and I just thought it was a joke."
In the show, the Duchess then performed a recreation of her curtsy at the time, extending her arms wide and bowing her head dramatically towards the floor. As she rose from the position, she added: "Pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty." She received criticism from royal fans afterwards who accused the duchess of mocking the royal tradition.
