Authorities searched rapper YG's Hollywood Hills mansion on Thursday in connection with a police shooting in Compton that killed a bystander earlier this month. Deputy Marvin Crowder of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department confirmed that the rapper, whose real name is Keenon Jackson, has not been implicated in the shooting and was not at the home during the search.
During the raid, Tyquan Williams, 29, was arrested on a weapons charge. Deputy James Nagal said it was unclear if the arrest was related to the shooting. Police insiders told TMZ that the weapon recovered from the site will undergo testing. Several other individuals were detained at the property.
The fatal shooting occurred on July 3 after deputies attempted to pull over a Cadillac Escalade registered to Jackson in Compton, believing the driver was reckless and under the influence. An occupant fired an assault rifle at deputies, who returned fire at two locations. A sheriff's helicopter tracked the vehicle to Inglewood, where an occupant shot at it. The suspects then abandoned the SUV and fled. One suspect was arrested, while another remains at large. One deputy suffered graze wounds to his arm and shoulder.
Deputies later found Ricky Cornell Starks, 65, of Compton, with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear whether he was shot by deputies or the suspects. Crowder stated there is 'no concrete link' between Jackson and the shooting beyond his vehicle.
YG, whose hits include 'Toot It and Boot It' and 'Go Loko', tweeted on July 5 that he was unaware of the incident until later, stating he was in a recording studio in Hollywood all day. United Talent Agency, which represents Jackson, declined to comment.
