Alexandra 'Alix' Mountbatten, a cousin of King Charles, has made a surprising confession during her first television appearance on Channel 4's new survival series, Apocalypse.
The 28-year-old, the second daughter of Lord Ivar Mountbatten, features in a clip where she addresses assumptions about her background: “People tend to think ‘she’s a posh, rich, white girl’.”
She continues: “But when you grow up in the countryside, you tend to be a bit more feral, I think.”
Survival skills from a farm upbringing
Alix adds: “I grew up on a farm, so I can hunt, I can fish. I am happy with dead animals.”
The show places “ordinary people” into two groups of strangers in a real, abandoned town, with each group unaware of the other's existence. Participants must scavenge, recycle, reuse and reinvent whatever they can find to get by.
Family connections
Alix's father, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, became the first member of the extended Royal Family to come out publicly as gay in 2016. Her sister, Ella Mountbatten, recently married Fergus Wrigh in West Sussex, with Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie in attendance.
Prince Edward is a godfather to Ella, while Sophie is a godmother to Alix. Alix is a second cousin of King Charles.
