John Slattery, best known for Mad Men, stars in the legal thriller The Rainmaker, which begins on ITV tonight at 9pm. The show, which first aired in the US in 2025, makes its UK debut on Friday, 28 August.
What is The Rainmaker about?
Based on the best-selling novel by John Grisham, the series follows Rudy Baylor, a fresh law school graduate who goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond and his law school girlfriend, Sarah. Rudy, along with his boss Bruiser and her disheveled paralegal Deck, uncovers two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client's son.
Slattery, 64, takes on the role of Leo Drummond. Away from his acting career, he is married to fellow actress Talia Balsam, with the couple exchanging vows in 1998. They share a son, Harry, 27.

Like John, Talia is a well-respected figure in the acting world. The actress, 67, who was previously wed to George Clooney from 1989 to 1993, boasts an impressive portfolio including Happy Days, Dallas, Taxi, Hill Street Blues, Family Ties, The Larry Sanders Show, and Magnum, P. I. Other credits include Without a Trace, Homeland and Divorce.
In an amusing case of life imitating art, John and Talia portrayed husband and wife Roger and Mona Sterling in the hugely popular series Mad Men.
Additionally, John and Talia, along with their son Harry, all featured in the drama The Subject Was Roses. John and Talia played husband and wife, Netty and John, with Harry starring as their son, Timmy.
Family production insights
Opening up about the family production, Talia previously told Purist: "This is a unique position for all of us—a good play, good parts."
To which John added: "[Our family friend] Victor [Garber] discovered Harry. Harry can act! This is the perfect part for a young actor: well-written, funny and it gets nasty."
