After a five-year absence, the thrilling and often terrifying live Bushtucker Trials are making a dramatic return to I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! This season will feature the first live trial since 2019, promising viewers an extra dose of unpredictable jungle action.
What is the Cocktails of Cruelty Trial?
This year's live challenge, named 'Cocktails of Cruelty', is a head-to-head drinking competition with a nasty twist. Each celebrity contestant will be tasked with selecting two particularly 'delicious' jungle ingredients that their opponent must then consume. The winner is the first person in the pair to down their revolting beverage completely and slam their empty glass back onto the table.
The last time a live trial was staged in the Australian jungle was back in 2019, featuring famous faces such as Caitlyn Jenner, Roman Kemp, and football legend Ian Wright. A separate live event also occurred when the show was temporarily relocated to Wales in 2020 due to pandemic travel restrictions.
Memorable Live Trial Moments
Live trials have a history of creating some of the show's most unforgettable television moments. Perhaps the most iconic was in 2010, when You Are What You Eat host Gillian McKeith fainted live on air.
Reflecting on the incident, McKeith later insisted her collapse was genuine and not a tactic to escape further trials. "I have a history of fainting since childhood," she explained. "The day before we did the live trial, I hadn't had much to eat and I wasn't feeling very well – which is the precursor to passing out."
She even recounted fainting at a wedding once, just as the ceremony was about to begin. McKeith added that the incident in the jungle is something she has never been able to live down, with taxi drivers and members of the public reminding her of it constantly. "They all talk about it as if it were yesterday," she said.
