William Ash has confirmed that the controversial Emmerdale storyline between Caleb Miligan and Joe Tate has reached its end after an 'extreme' conclusion. The feud, which escalated last week, may have gone as far as it can, according to the actor.
Joe and Caleb have been at odds since Joe's plot to steal Caleb's kidney. More recently, Caleb sought revenge by helping Dawn Taylor run away with Billy Fletcher on the day she was due to marry Joe. Dawn changed her mind at the last minute, but not before Caleb had told Joe what he had done. After reuniting with Joe, getting caught up in Jimmy King's car accident and giving birth to a son, Dawn died in hospital, leaving Joe bereft. Instead of dealing with his grief healthily, he vowed to seek revenge on Caleb and Ruby Miligan in horrifying fashion.
Feud 'gone as far as it can go'
Speaking to Metro at the Cure Usher Ball, William Ash admitted that things got 'a bit extreme' when Joe resorted to burying Ruby alive. 'I think it's kind of gone as far as it can go now, hasn't it? You never know what the writers have in store, but it was pretty drastic, I think, that end bit,' he said.
'Burying her alive and then not taking her to hospital afterwards – it's a bit extreme.'
Conflict ahead for Caleb and Ruby
While this may be the end of the escalating feud for now, Will did admit that things won't be completely plain sailing for Caleb and Ruby going forward. 'We've got some conflict coming up, I think,' he teased, admitting that that's the most fun to play as an actor.
'It gets a bit dull when everyone's getting on and everybody's having a nice time with each other. Hopefully real life is like that, but with Emmerdale you've got to have the conflict there, and that's the best stuff to play.'
