Davina McCall 'so grateful' to Richard Madeley after heartfelt memory

Davina McCall has spoken of her gratitude to Richard Madeley after recalling a heartfelt moment from her early career. Appearing on Good Morning Britain to discuss her Outstanding Achievement Award at the Edinburgh TV Festival, the presenter took time to thank Richard for an interview they shared on This Morning in the late 1990s.

A moment 'saved in her heart'

A clip shown on the programme featured a younger Davina and Richard during their chat on the ITV show. Speaking about the interview, she said: "I'll never forget you and Judy. You won't remember this because you've interviewed everybody, but to me it meant the world."

She continued: "I think I had come on your show quite a bit, but this was for Don't Try This at Home. You said, 'I've been watching you in between shots, you're good.' I've saved that in my heart my entire career."

Davina added: "I am so grateful to you, even just sitting on the sofa with both of you this morning, I've got goosebumps! It's so exciting, you guys do an amazing job, every day."

Richard's talent for spotting presenters

Richard confessed that he is quite good at spotting when a presenter will be good and shared that he knew Davina had that talent. In response, Davina said: "You don't realise how much you've helped me do that for other people, I always do it for other people because you did it for me."

The show that started it all

During the discussion, Richard asked Davina which 'one show' she would take with her to a desert island. She replied: "Obviously, Big Brother changed my life. But, the one that I think changed my life because it got me Big Brother, was Streetmate."

She described Streetmate as "so, so funny", adding: "We had no script, we didn't know what we were doing, we didn't know if there was going to be any show, if we were going to find anyone to talk to. It was the craziest programme I have ever presented in my whole life. Then it led onto Big Brother, which was life-changing, but that started it all."

Good Morning Britain is available to watch on ITV weekdays from 6am.
