Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has revealed that things are set to take an even darker turn, with Lucy Parkinson's behaviour continuing to spiral. As those who follow the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford, know, teenager Lucy has been in Sally and Tim Metcalfe's care for weeks following the death of her mother, Rachel, and the imprisonment of her father, Richie.
Lucy's arrival in Weatherfield
It came after Richie made an unexpected arrival on the cobbles and was revealed as the cousin of Weatherfield resident Tim. After picking up a cab fare, Tim was surprised to be reunited with his family member, and it wasn't long before he was seen sleeping on Tim's sofa, admitting he was going through a rocky patch with his wife, Rachel.
But what soon transpired wasn't anything Tim, and his wife, Sally were expecting. Tim advised Richie to try to sort things out with Rachel, so he headed home, but he accidentally left his wallet behind. When Tim returned later on, he was left in shock as he saw Richie's shirt covered in blood, and then he made the horrifying discovery of Rachel's lifeless body.
After the horrifying discovery and a sleepless night, DS Lisa Connor-Swain called round to her neighbours' home and confirmed that they had charged Richie with the murder of his wife. It was confirmed that Richie's daughter, Lucy, would be placed in temporary foster care. But when her placement fell through, Tim went behind Sally's back and organised a meeting with the social worker, saying he and his wife would take her in, as they had done with the Michaelis children - Brody, Joanie and Shanice.
Sally's growing concerns
Lucy's behaviour, however, has been of concern. She was recently seen leading the youngest of the Michaelis kids, Shanice, astray, sending her to the shops for sweets on her own. She was brought back by the Kabin's Brian Packham, but when Sally tried to confront Lucy, Lucy wanted to storm off, and Sally had to grab her wrist to stop her. Later, Lucy emerged with a bruise on her wrist, and Sally, horrified that she'd caused the damage, apologised.
Last week, it was Lucy's mum's funeral and Tim and Sally were on hand to offer support, as was Christina Boyd, who oversaw the service with George Shuttleworth. Sally was worried about Lucy when she wanted to leave the wake early, and when she tried to give her the chance to talk, the teen hit back: "It wasn't too much," she said. "But I thought my dad was gonna be there, and he wasn't. That's the only reason I went to that stupid funeral in the first place!"
Later, Sally told Tim she was "really worried" about Lucy and also had a heart-to-heart with Christina and started to cast doubts over Lucy being so supportive of her dad. "How can she be so invested in a man that would do that to her own mother?" Sally said as Christina asked if she thought there was "something else" to Lucy's story. "I don't know. All I do know is something just doesn't feel right," Sally replied.
The abusive turn
But in upcoming scenes, things will take an abusive turn. Sally told the Manchester Evening News and other press: "I don't think she wanted to have Lucy at the beginning, but she realised that this is Tim's second cousin. So she felt that she couldn't say no, basically..."
She added: "I think that she thinks she's doing an okay job, but I think she's now starting to struggle, and I think it will get to a breaking point where she just can't cope. It's, I mean, what has happened in Lucy's life... What had happened to the Michaelis children was bad enough, but what's happened in Lucy's life is so huge, isn't it? And the details seem to be quite sketchy. It's all quite complex. I think Sally feels she's bitten off. bitten off a bit more than they can chew with Lucy.
"And then when Lucy says things like to me, like, 'You're just like my mum,' there's a lot going on with the things that Lucy says. The way she treats Sally when Tim's not there as well is really quite scary, and then she has to justify herself to Tim. So it's kind of putting pressure on them as a couple. So yeah, I think I think she has bitten off more than she can chew with Lucy."
Disturbing artwork and breaking point
Viewers will soon see a much darker side of Lucy when she shows Sally your artwork. which really disturbs Sally. Explaining the upcoming scenes, Sally said: "Sally comes down from upstairs, and she sees her artwork on the kitchen table and is quite shocked by it. Then that's when Lucy gets really angry and she tears one of the pictures from Sally."
Of the pictures, she said: "Just really scary things that are just not a normal thing to draw, and Sally's really very worried about this, but then Lucy tears this picture and then blames it on her and says Sally ripped her artwork." As for what's next, the soap star continued: "And Lucy gets very cross and throws her phone at Sally and it hits her in the face."
As for how Sally is feeling: "Just really shocked and can't believe she's done that. And Sally's not done anything, she probably would have even complimented [the artwork] if Lucy wasn't screaming at her. So yeah, it is a bit of a traumatic time."
She added on how Sally feels after the incident: "I think Sally's on the verge at this point. I think she really wants to help her, and she's not going to pull out, but I think she's starting to think, 'This is too difficult!' And she does say that to Tim, 'She needs therapy and this isn't something we can handle as a couple.' So I think she's now on the verge of thinking, 'It can't go on. We can't carry on.' But then later on, she's like, 'No, we are going to do the best by this child, and we're going to do everything right, and nobody's going to come and interfere in this. We're gonna deal with it.' But it turns out she can't, she can't cope."
