The investigation into the shooting takes a turn when DS Lisa Connor-Swain wants to follow up on previous statements with further questions, whilst someone masks their panic, according to spoilers for next week's Coronation Street.
Meanwhile, Sarah asks Kit Green to act as a character reference for her, but he refuses. When her daughter, Bethany Platt, confronts him to reconsider, Kit finally reveals he has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.
Gary's fears and Kit's confession
Also on the street, in the flat, a stressed Gary Windass tells his wife Maria that he's been given a date for his hearing. When Gary warns Jake Windass and Liam Connor that he might be sent to prison, the boys get upset.
As the week unfolds, Kit prepares for his first chemotherapy session, when Brody Michaelis arrives to see him. Kit puts on a brave face, plugs in his electric razor and lets Brody shave his hair for him. At the hospital, Kit finds support from his mum, Bernie Winter-Alahan, by talking about stories from his childhood. Later at home, Brody calls and tells Kit he needs him more than ever, and to keep fighting, as Kit hugs him tightly.
Jake's rebellion and the trial begins
Elsewhere, Gary takes a call from the school informing him that Jake's been suspended for fighting. In the flat, Jake rounds on Gary for risking his freedom for Sarah and tells him it's obvious he doesn't care about him, Liam or Maria. With Gary and Maria having gone to the pub, Jake packs his rucksack and heads out.
Bethany puts pressure on Kit to come clean to Sarah about his cancer before her trial, but he refuses point-blank. Bethany and Todd Grimshaw visit Sarah, and when she defeatedly tells them she understands Kit's decision not to help her, Todd blurts out that Kit's got breast cancer, leaving Bethany horrified whilst Sarah reels in shock.
Meanwhile, Bethany begs Sarah to let Gary carry the can for Theo's murder, pointing out that she needs her, Kit needs her, and Harry needs her, which leaves Sarah torn.
Gary's family crisis and the trial's twists
Back on the street, when Gary discovers Jake's bed untouched, he calls Izzy. When Izzy reveals that Jake stayed at hers and made it clear he doesn't want to stay with him anymore, Gary's shocked. Later, Izzy calls at Victoria Court for the rest of Jake's things, leaving Gary deeply upset.
In an attempt to put things right, Gary meets up with Jake in the café and begs him to come home. Jake sticks to his guns and points out that he put Sarah before his family, and for that reason, he won't be moving back any time soon. Maria assures Gary that Sarah won't let him down, he won't be sent to prison, and Jake will be back before he knows it, and it's fair to say that Gary hopes she's right.
By the middle of the week, Sarah surveys her prison cell, worried it might be her home for many years. In court, the prosecution barrister tells the jury how Sarah was so angered by Theo Silverton's treatment of Todd that she took the law into her own hands and killed him.
When Lisa and Danielle Silverton take the witness stand, the trial takes a devastating turn for Sarah. Later, David accuses Lisa of sabotaging Sarah's defence. He then turns his attention to Kit and tears a strip off him for the lack of support. But Kit loses his temper and tells David and Bethany he wants nothing more to do with their family.
Ronnie's secret and Nick's business woes
Later, when Tyrone Dobbs clocks Todd heading into the undertakers and queries why he isn't in court, Todd admits that he can't face it. In the courtroom, the prosecution barrister rips into Sarah. Having been convinced by Tyrone that he owes it to himself and Sarah to tell the truth, Todd takes the stand and defends Sarah. Later, Bethany puts pressure on Kit to step up to the plate, not only for Sarah's sake but for Harry's too.
As the week draws to a close, Bethany tells David that Sarah's barrister called and Kit won't be attending court. At the trial, the prosecution barrister questions Gary. Meanwhile, an upset Bethany hurries out of the courtroom, returns home, and pressures Kit to do the right thing. It appears to work, but when Kit takes the stand, will he tell the whole truth? Later, Sarah calls Bethany from prison and tells her that if she's found guilty, she'd like her to have custody of Harry.
Away from the trial, when Debbie Webster announces that she's off to work, her husband, Ronnie Bailey, reminds her she booked the day off. Not wanting to admit that she'd totally forgotten, Debbie makes out she's got back-to-back meetings and couldn't cancel them, and Ronnie plays along.
Once at the Chariot Square, Ronnie thanks Ryan Connor for finding some work for Debbie to do and keeping her busy. Debbie watches them and senses they're discussing her.
The following day, Debbie sets about making some toast for Carl, but when Ronnie catches her poking a knife into the toaster, he's horrified and quickly rips the plug out of the socket. But it only leaves Debbie upset, as she accuses him of treating her like a toddler.
Later, when Bernie fails to show up for lunch, Debbie is annoyed. Asha Alahan suggests they have lunch together instead, but when Ronnie calls to check on Debbie, she takes offence and heads out. When Asha urges Ronnie to join the local dementia support group, will he agree?
As the week continues, Ronnie turns down Debbie's offer of an afternoon lie down and tells her he's nipping to grab them some lunch. Fearing the worst, Debbie summons Abi Webster to the flat and tells her she's convinced Ronnie's seeing someone else and planning to put her in a care home.
He raises suspicion again when he tells Debbie he's off to a meeting. As Ronnie leaves, Debbie calls Abi and asks her to keep an eye on him. As Abi passes Victoria Garden, she spies Ronnie with his arms around another woman.
When Ronnie explains that the woman was from the support group, Abi urges him to come clean to Debbie, but Ronnie refuses. Meanwhile, as Debbie potters about in the kitchen, she finds a leaflet in the bin and is horrified to realise it's an advert for a care home.
Later, Ronnie assures Debbie that he's not having an affair, Debbie relents and tells him that for his birthday, she's booked the honeymoon suite at the hotel. But when Ronnie arrives at the hotel with his overnight bag, Debbie's mortified to realise she'd forgotten and hired the honeymoon suite out to someone else.
Also in Weatherfield, Tracy Barlow makes it clear to Leanne Battersby that she wants compensation for the food poisoning. When Idris Nazir reckons Nick Tilsley needs to pay for his mistakes, the pair confront Nick over the dodgy meat and tell him that the restaurant is being slated on social media, and he needs to accept some liability.
Later, Nick reads through all the terrible online reviews as he receives yet another cancellation. Toyah assures him it'll blow over. In the Rovers, a despondent Nick and Toyah Battersby tell Leanne about the bad reviews and the downturn in trade.
In the Bistro, Sam Blakeman's upset to read some nasty comments on a school chat group; all of them directed at him, apart from a message from Hope Dobbs, who leaps to his defence. When Nick reveals that they can no longer afford to pay their meat supplier and they're reduced to buying meat from Freshco, Leanne suggests they should cut their losses and sell the business.
Later, on the street, Toyah confronts Leanne and tells her she's worked out how she and Idris are trying to sabotage the Bistro in the hope they can buy it for a knock-down price.
Meanwhile, when Nick calls at Speed Daal, Idris takes the opportunity to wind him up by suggesting that both his relationship with Sam and his business are both on their knees. In the Bistro, Sam confesses to Nick how he's been on the receiving end of some horrible online trolling, and he feels able to confide in Idris. Later, Idris calls at the Bistro and tells Nick that he should do the decent thing and sell the Bistro back to Leanne.
