The endgame of Jodie Ramsey's (Olivia Frances-Brown) insidious plot to destroy her sister Shona Platt's (Julia Goulding) life is approaching in Coronation Street. Since her arrival after the Corriedale carnage, Jodie has been clearly disturbed, cruel, and obsessed with ruining her sister, though her attempts to seduce Shona's husband, David Platt (Jack P Shepherd), have not worked as she hoped.
Few people have seen Jodie for what she really is, allowing her to terrorise the street with vindictive games and a collection of trophies hidden in her trinket box, undetected. Her most potent venom, however, has always been reserved for her sister.
Shona returns to work as Jodie seizes an opportunity
In today's episode, Shona was determined to return to work despite David's protests that she needed to rest after being diagnosed with post-partum fatigue. Jodie supported the decision, having already taken on domestic duties such as football runs for Lily (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) and packing the kids' school lunches. She pushed David to accept Shona's choice, seeing a chance to push her out even further.
At the hospital, Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) regained consciousness with no serious or permanent damage and is expected to make a full recovery. However, she woke with no recollection of who pushed her down the cellar steps at the Rovers. With nobody to blame, Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) vented his frustration at Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) for leaving Eva alone in the pub.
Carl Webster faces police questioning
Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) was questioned by Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) about Eva's attack, while Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) made thinly-veiled digs at Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard), the last person to see Eva before her fall. When Debbie later saw Carl's wallet full of cash, Ronnie and Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) suggested Carl had hurt Eva while robbing the pub, prompting Debbie to report her son to Kit.
Meanwhile, Sally and Tim Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine) continued to worry about Lucy Parkinson's (Anya Dewin) behaviour after her previous booze-fuelled antics. Tim spoke to Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers), concerned that Richie Parkinson (Nathan Sussex) might be pressuring Lucy as he had tried to pressure Tim into painting Rachel as an abusive monster to defend her killing. Later, they found Lucy sleepwalking and screaming that everything was her fault.
Carla Connor-Swain (Alison King) encouraged Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) to return to work, but still recovering from her stroke, Betsy fell asleep at her machine, leaving her tearful and embarrassed.
Jodie's next move and Carl's arrest
In Wednesday's episode, Jodie goes to the salon for a blow-dry, claiming she has a date later, but then feigns being cancelled on and cries. Pulling a bottle of bubbles from her bag, she persuades David to help her cheer up, raising questions about whether she is making another attempt to steal David from her sister.
Carl finds himself in the frame for Eva's attack and is taken in by police for questioning about his movements that night. Despite protesting his innocence, his track record may work against him. Will Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), the real attacker, step forward and clear Carl's name?
The Metcalfes ground Lucy for the rest of the week after her behaviour, but when Tim later discovers his wallet is £40 lighter, they wonder if she has struck again. Betsy continues to struggle at work, while Hope Dobbs (Isabella Flanagan) tells Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) she is worried about Sam.
