DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) finally learns the secret that has been consuming her colleague Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) in upcoming Coronation Street episodes, after his breast cancer diagnosis is revealed in a heated confrontation with his mother.
Kit's secret spills out
Kit has been privately reeling from a devastating breast cancer diagnosis after discovering his family carries the BRCA gene. He met with his consultant, who laid out a plan for surgery and treatment and strongly recommended he tell his family about his condition, which he initially did not do.
Aside from fearing for himself, Kit has been scared for other family members who may also be at risk, such as his mum Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove). While Bernie was being checked out at the hospital, she was treated by a nurse called Paul, who reminded her of her late son Paul, who died after being diagnosed with MND. Taking it as a sign from the universe, Bernie gained comfort from her spiritual side and her connection with her deceased son, which irritated Kit.
This led to a massive fight where Bernie accused Kit of being negative until he finally exploded and revealed his cancer diagnosis. Bernie was crushed and fell apart in the arms of her partner, Dev (Jimmi Harkishin).
Lisa's suspicions grow
DS Connor-Swain has historically clashed with Kit due to his habit of bending the law to protect his loved ones and punish his enemies. She has already started to smell a rat due to Kit's reckless behaviour during the murder investigation of Luke Cookson's murderer. After Kit snapped at her, Lisa shared her worries with Bernie but got no answers.
Lisa's worries were confounded after she was forced to intervene when Kit got the red mist and lost his rag with a suspect. She warned him that his problem could lose his job if he doesn't sort himself out.
Lisa's reaction
In upcoming episodes, Lisa is not happy when DC McLaughlin (Michelle Tate) informs her that Kit called in sick for the third time this week, but she is distracted by a report of a shooting on Coronation Street and hurries out.
In the hospital chemotherapy room, the nurse talks Kit through the side effects of his treatment and urges him to speak to his boss as he won't be fit for work. Kit calls at the station to find Lisa furiously typing up her notes. She angrily confronts him for failing to answer his calls until Kit drops the bombshell that he's got cancer.
Lisa is stunned but understanding and supporting, promising that Kit and the force will support him any way that they can.
