Coronation Street has confirmed another flashforward is on the way as a gunshot rings out during a showdown between sisters Jodie Ramsey and Shona Platt. A recent teaser gave viewers of the ITV soap, filmed in Salford, a glimpse into the emotional fallout, betrayal and intense confrontations set to unfold in Weatherfield between the siblings as they fight over Shona's husband, David Platt.
Jodie's arrival and scheming
Jodie arrived in Weatherfield back in January in the aftermath of a dramatic multi-vehicle crash involving those from the cobbles and Emmerdale village. She was seen tied up in the back of a van being driven by Dales returnee Graham Foster before becoming injured in her escape. That meant she was in the hospital with all others involved in the horror smash, including a then-pregnant Shona and David. Having spotted her sibling, it was long before Jodie revealed herself to be Shona's long-lost sister.
Feeling sorry for her after Shona's frosty reception, David ended up inviting Jodie to stay at No.8 Coronation Street, and she has been causing trouble ever since. She was previously seen trying to get in between her sister and brother-in-law, seemingly wanting Shona's life as her own. More recently, Jodie has been ramping up her plans to take over her sister's life, and it was made clear that Jodie is trying to make Shona and her loved ones think she's suffering from post-natal depression as she struggles with baby Harper.
Doug's assessment and the party
New Corrie spoilers have shed more light on what's ahead next week. It starts when David reveals that Doug Ramsey, Shona and Jodie's dad, has swiped both the toaster and the biscuit tin, which Jodie plays down and assures him that he probably just needs to have his meds tweaked. Meanwhile, Shona confides in Bethany Platt that she's worried about her own mental state as she often hears Harper crying when she isn't there.
Later, when Jodie calls Doug's doctor and accuses him of being a danger to the family, the mental health team arrives to assess him. Shona tearfully tells him how sorry she is, but as Doug is led away, he warns Shona to watch her back where Jodie's concerned. Later, Bethany catches Jodie red-handed, but Jodie has her own plan to keep Bethany quiet.
As Jodie returns home with Shona's birthday cake, she finds Shona frantically searching the living room. Shona explains that she heard the crying again, but it sounded like a recording rather than the real thing. As David and Jodie set about decorating the bistro for Shona's birthday party, Lily Platt arrives. When Lily's phone is plugged into the docking station, the room suddenly fills with Harper's crying. Shona accuses Lily of recording Harper's crying in a bid to convince her she was losing her mind. Swearing blind that she has no idea how Harper's crying found its way onto her phone, an upset Lily flees from the party.
The flashforward and its aftermath
The next time we head to the cobbles, a flashforward will take viewers to No.8, where the living room is strewn with someone's belongings as a paramedic tends to a casualty on the floor. Back in the present day, a family feud between Shona and Jodie reaches its breaking point, accusations fly, and secrets are exposed, pushing one of them to their limit. When a weapon is drawn, the situation spirals into chaos, and a gunshot rings out. As the dust settles, one person lies stricken, and the family is left reeling in horror.
As the week draws to a close, David calls an ambulance and explains that someone has been shot. The paramedics arrive together with the firearms officer. Later, DS Lisa Connor-Swain questions David about the shooting. On the upcoming storyline, Olivia Frances Brown, who plays Jodie, previously said: "Jodie has convinced herself that David symbolises her potential for future happiness. She's lost the plot a little bit and truly believes David is the answer to all her wants and needs. When pushed, you just don't know what Jodie's capable of. She has a lot of dark secrets and has a genuinely sinister side to her."
