Coronation Street fans believe Debbie Webster's fate could be sealed after her son Carl came under suspicion following the attack on Eva Price, with many predicting an emotional exit for the character.
Viewers of the ITV soap will recall that Sam Blakeman (portrayed by Jude Riordan) barged past Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) at the Rovers Return, resulting in her tumbling down the stairs. As he fled from the pub, Sam encountered a confused Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney), who was searching for her son, Carl (Jonathan Howard). Sam indicated that Debbie should look for Carl at the Rovers, prompting the hotel proprietor to discover Eva lying unconscious at the foot of the stairs.
However, sadly, Debbie, who lives with early-onset dementia, quickly forgot what she'd witnessed, with Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) subsequently discovering Eva and calling an ambulance. DC Kit Green launched an investigation into the incident during Monday's (September 28) episode, reports the Daily Star.
Carl in the frame
In the most recent episode, which is currently available to stream on ITVX, Kit interviewed Debbie and Carl regarding Eva's injuries. Carl explained how he assisted Eva with tidying up as she was feeling unwell, before heading home. As Debbie declared she would purchase some flowers for Eva, Carl retrieved his wallet, which was crammed with cash. This prompted Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) and Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) to believe that Carl could have stolen from the pub and inadvertently sent Eva tumbling down the stairs during the robbery.
It wasn't just Ronnie and Kevin who harboured doubts about Carl, as Debbie quickly voiced her concerns to Kit. "I interviewed Eva and she can't remember anything," Kit disclosed. Debbie then said: "The thing is, I think Carl might have pushed Eva down the steps. I think he might have been robbing the pub."
Kit replied: "Okay, well the only thing I need to know is if you're willing to make a statement, Debbie." Debbie was seen hesitantly nodding her head, just before the credits started rolling.
Fans predict Debbie's exit
While Carl appears to be in the frame for Sam's actions, numerous Coronation Street fans believe that it is Debbie who could depart the soap following the attack. Multiple viewers suspect that she will ultimately accept responsibility and potentially face imprisonment.
"Can see Debbie getting the blame for this," one person wrote on a Facebook fan page. Another added: "Yeah I think so too, hope it's not her exit." A third said: "Poor Debbie. She will get blamed for it," while someone else shared: "I think that's why Sam sent her to the Rovers to get blamed."
Will Sam confess? We'll have to wait and see. Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
