Coronation Street fans are convinced a beloved Weatherfield resident could be heading for the exit following the attack on Eva Price, with many believing Debbie Webster may take the blame.
ITV soap viewers saw Sam Blakeman (played by Jude Riordan) push past Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) at the Rovers Return, causing her to fall down the stairs. As Sam rushed away, he ran into a confused Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney), who was looking for her son Carl (Jonathan Howard). Sam suggested Debbie search for Carl at the Rovers, where she found Eva unconscious at the bottom of the stairs.
Debbie's Dementia and Suspicions
Debbie, who suffers from early-onset dementia, soon forgot what she had seen. Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) later found Eva and called an ambulance. DC Kit Green began investigating the attack during Monday's (September 28) episode.
During the latest instalment, now streaming on ITVX, Kit questioned Debbie and Carl about Eva's injuries. Carl described how he helped Eva clear up because she wasn't feeling well, then returned home. When Debbie announced she was going to buy Eva flowers, Carl pulled out his wallet stuffed with cash, leading Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) and Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) to suspect Carl might have robbed the pub and accidentally pushed Eva down the stairs.
Fans Predict Debbie's Exit
Debbie soon shared her suspicions with Kit. "I interviewed Eva and she can't remember anything," Kit revealed. Debbie then said: "The thing is, I think Carl might have pushed Eva down the steps. I think he might have been robbing the pub." Kit replied: "Okay, well the only thing I need to know is if you're willing to make a statement, Debbie." Debbie was seen reluctantly nodding her head before the credits rolled.
While Carl seems to be in the frame for Sam's actions, several fans believe Debbie could exit the soap. "Can see Debbie getting the blame for this," one person wrote on a Facebook fan page. Another added: "Yeah I think so too, hope it's not her exit." A third said: "Poor Debbie. She will get blamed for it," while someone else shared: "I think that's why Sam sent her to the Rovers to get blamed."
