Coronation Street villain Megan Walsh set to return

Coronation Street villain Megan Walsh is reportedly set to return to the ITV soap, with actress Beth Nixon soon to resume filming. The show is keen to explore another chapter of Megan and Will Driscoll's dark story, according to reports.

Megan's Dark Storyline

Megan, played by Beth Nixon, was revealed as a predatory force who groomed Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) into believing they were in a loving relationship. Acting as his sports coach, she embedded herself into the Driscoll family before moving to Weatherfield alongside them.

Her manipulation was evident as she switched between love-bombing Will and putting him on ice, while forming a relationship with fellow teacher Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) to cover her true intentions. When Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) discovered what was happening, Megan sabotaged his academic reputation and threatened to paint him as a pervert, pushing him into a psychiatric breakdown.

Justice and Aftermath

Even after her arrest, Megan seemed untouchable. Will, still in misguided love with her, was unwilling to testify. She also saw off the combined forces of Will's step mum Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) and Sam's step mums Leanne and Toyah Battersby (Jane Danson and Georgia Taylor), before aborting her surprise pregnancy to remove evidence of her abuse and framing Will's grandma Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) for causing a miscarriage.

It was only the interference of Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine), himself a victim of childhood sexual abuse, that led Will to see Megan for what she truly was. Despite her attempts to get him to drop the charges, she was found guilty and sentenced to five years in prison.

Beth Nixon on a Possible Return

Beth has teased the possibility of Megan's return on several occasions. Speaking on the Inside Soap podcast, she said: 'We'll see, we will have to wait and see!' When asked if she'd consider returning, she added: 'I'd love to. Any opportunity to come back I would always come back. I mean I loved it so much. I cried so much on my last day!'

She repeated her sentiments when speaking exclusively to Metro at the Inside Soap Awards. 'I think Megan's relentless, isn't she?' Beth pondered. 'So we don't know, but for now she's locked up and 'throw away the key' I'm sure that many people would say but, you know, she is relentless, isn't she? She's delusional so she might worm her way back in one day, but we never know.'

Beth also spoke on her favourite scene to film: 'I think the scene with the three sisters was fabulous because they were just all absolutely on fire. I think it was such a dark storyline, obviously I was crying all the time, screaming and kicking off, but that was a dark scene, but it had so many comedic elements in it, so that one really sticks out for me. I had the best day ever. I just remember my belly hurting. It was so much fun.'
