Reality Stars Barred from Celebrity Traitors as New Series Gets Green Light
In a surprising twist for fans of the hit BBC show, reality television personalities have been explicitly banned from participating in the upcoming series of Celebrity Traitors. This revelation comes directly from Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby, who expressed her frustration at being excluded due to the programme's stringent casting rules.
Charlotte Crosby's Frustration Over Strict 'No Reality' Rule
Charlotte Crosby, 35, confirmed the existence of this policy in an interview with The Sun, stating it is a "genuine fact" that Celebrity Traitors operates under a strict 'no reality stars' rule. The television personality admitted she would be thrilled to "be there with my f*****g cloak" but is prohibited from taking part because of her background in reality television.
She explained: "I would love to do that, but you do know they've got a no reality rule. That is a genuine fact. My agent is on the line and he will confirm. They take no reality stars. A lot of shows have this rule."
Crosby suggested this isn't unprecedented, noting that ITV's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! previously operated under similar restrictions before eventually breaking the mould when they ran out of traditional celebrity names. She remains hopeful the rule might change in future series, saying: "As soon as they do, I will be there with my f*****g cloak."
Celebrity Traitors' Triumphant Return Confirmed
The BBC has officially confirmed that Celebrity Traitors will return later this year for a second series, following the massive success of last year's edition. The star-studded spin-off, fronted by The Traitors legend Claudia Winkleman, sees celebrities test their cunning against one another in the notorious Scottish castle setting.
Last year's series proved particularly captivating when Alan Carr successfully deceived his famous friends to emerge victorious, outwitting the likes of Kate Garraway and Paloma Faith. The Chatty Man presenter recently revealed he nearly spoiled his win shortly after filming wrapped, telling a cameraman about his triumph within 12 hours before attempting to backtrack by claiming he was "joking and teasing."
New Celebrity Contestants Rumoured for Upcoming Series
With the new series currently in development, several high-profile names are already being linked to the programme. Alison Hammond is reportedly at the top of producers' wish lists, alongside EastEnders star Danny Dyer, suggesting the show aims to maintain its A-list appeal despite the reality star ban.
Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, announced: "In 2026 the doors of the castle will be opened again to welcome celebrity players to the game to see who can charm, who can scheme and ultimately who can survive in series two which promises to be just as unmissable as the first."
The executive also highlighted the positive economic contribution The Traitors brand has made to Scotland's economy, with Uncloaked returning alongside the main show. Alex Apati of Ladbrokes commented to the Mirror about the high expectations for the new series, noting: "Celebrity Traitors chiefs have a lot to live up to after the resounding success of series one, and if the latest odds are anything to go by, we could be in for another A-list line-up."
The combination of strict casting rules, returning host Claudia Winkleman, and rumoured celebrity participants suggests the upcoming series of Celebrity Traitors will maintain the tension and intrigue that made the original such a television phenomenon, even as it excludes an entire category of potential contestants.
