Contestants on Celebrity Race Across The World faced an unexpected hurdle during Thursday's episode as one star was forced to explain their partner's concerning absence at the start of the show.
A Rocky Start in Central America
The latest leg of the competition saw the celebrity teams racing from the world surfing mecca of El Zonte, across the entirety of El Salvador, and into Honduras. Their goal was to reach the third checkpoint located in the picturesque colonial mountain town of Valle de Ángeles.
As the episode began, the teams gathered to embark on their next adventure, but one participant was noticeably missing. When Dylan Llewellyn and his mother, Jackie, chatted with Tyler West, they immediately questioned the whereabouts of his racing partner, Molly Rainford.
The Mystery of the Missing Partner
They asked directly if Molly was unwell. Tyler West, 29, confirmed the suspicions, suggesting the cause was likely something she had eaten. This prompted a sympathetic response from Jackie, who sent her well-wishes for a speedy recovery.
Tyler lightened the moment with a joke, quipping that Molly was actually in her room revising the route. However, as the show progressed, it became clear the situation was more serious. Tyler himself began to feel unwell shortly after setting off, confessing he felt the worst he had felt in a long time.
From Worst to First: A Triumphant Recovery
Molly Rainford, who had since rejoined the race, provided more details on their rough 24 hours. She revealed they were suffering from a bout of food poisoning, likely from something dodgy they had eaten. While she was starting to feel better, Tyler was in the thick of it, feeling terrible.
Upon reaching their accommodation for the night, Tyler was frank about his condition, stating he felt like death but was grateful for a bed. He praised Molly for doing a phenomenal job in looking after him.
In a remarkable turn of events, despite battling severe illness, the pair managed to not only continue the race but secure first place at the third checkpoint in Valle de Ángeles. Molly expressed her pride, declaring the leg had gone from the worst to the best, a sentiment echoed by a thrilled Tyler who called it the best possible outcome.
Celebrity Race Across The World continues on Thursdays at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
