The latest series of Channel 4's Celebrity Hunted ended with a tense finale on a Gwynedd beach, where two pairs of fugitive celebrities narrowly avoided capture. A light aircraft touched down on Traeth Morfa Bychan, also known as Black Rock Sands, near Porthmadog, allowing the contestants to escape by the narrowest of margins.
Vehicles are permitted onto the beach, making it an ideal setting for a conclusion that featured cars, a helicopter, and the aircraft. One viewer told Hunted HQ it "felt like a movie at the end".
Final chase unfolds on the beach
The final episode began with five celebrities still on the run from the Hunters, led by Ray Howard. The Hunters had access to CCTV, mobile tracking, and agents with police and military backgrounds. Scarlette Douglas, whose brother Stuart was captured earlier, was apprehended when Hunters traced her vehicle, leaving two teams still evading capture.
Strictly professionals Amy Dowden and Carlos Gu, along with father-and-daughter pair Brian and Lucy Conley, travelled to Gwynedd after locating a burner phone at Birmingham train station's left luggage department. The phone informed them they needed to go to Traeth Morfa Bychan, while the Hunters remained in close pursuit via CCTV and other monitoring.
Desperate scramble to board the plane
The night before extraction, both teams stayed in bed and breakfasts. The next morning, they hid among sand dunes awaiting their transport. A small aircraft landed directly on the beach, and multiple Hunter teams descended on foot, by car, and by helicopter.
Amy and Carlos were first to climb aboard, with Lucy close behind. However, her 65-year-old father Brian struggled to keep pace. As the Hunters closed in, he just managed to haul himself into the aircraft, which immediately began taxiing. One Hunter was left spluttering on sand thrown back by the propeller as he tried to stop the takeoff.
Winners celebrated by Hunted HQ
The pursuers made further attempts, racing alongside the plane in a vehicle and driving head-on towards it from the opposite direction. A Hunter helicopter swept low over the beach in a last-ditch effort to deter the pilot, but the plane soared into the sky, leaving the four celebrities to celebrate their triumph.
On the beach, the Hunters were left crestfallen, some burying their heads in their hands. Hunted HQ paid tribute to the winners, declaring they had demonstrated "resilience and resourcefulness throughout". Special recognition was given to the Conleys, with fans calling them "hilarious to watch" and saying they had "taunted the Hunters" during their run.
Hunted HQ said: "Brian and Lucy used their dad-and-daughter dynamic to outsmart the Hunters and made us laugh every step of the way. Congratulations to the entertaining pair on successfully evading capture."
