Amanda and Clive Owen appeared almost unrecognisable in a vintage wedding photograph as they reminisced about their nuptials during Monday's broadcast of Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids. The couple, who announced their separation in 2022 after twenty-two years of marriage, continue to collaborate professionally while raising their nine children together.
A Nostalgic Conversation at Anty John's Farm
In the latest instalment of the More4 series, which documents their efforts to restore the derelict 1800s farmhouse known as Anty John's, Amanda and Clive sat outside the property and reflected on their past. Amanda prompted Clive by asking what occurred in July 2000, to which he initially responded with playful confusion, giggling and inquiring about August instead.
She retorted humorously, 'In August you probably regretted what happened in July!' Clive then recalled with laughter, 'I remember now! We had a bit of a do in Muker. Didn't we? What a hell of a day we had.' Amanda's voiceover revealed to viewers, 'I'm going to let you into a bit of a secret. I got married to Clive at Muker,' as an image from their wedding day flashed on screen.
Supernatural Signs and Shared Laughter
Amanda further probed her ex-husband about a memorable moment from their celebration, questioning whether a thunderclap and lightning as she rode side-saddle down the road might have been an ominous sign. Clive replied thoughtfully, 'There you are. That could have been a sign, couldn't it, from the heavens? Yeah...' Despite the playful speculation, Amanda emphasised the positive nature of their current dynamic, stating, 'I'll tell you something, though, it's good that we can laugh about it.' Clive affirmed, 'Well it was a grand day!' and Amanda echoed, 'Hey, it was a great day.'
Life After Separation: Co-Parenting and Collaboration
Since parting ways, Amanda and Clive have maintained a strong partnership focused on their family and professional endeavours. They co-parent their nine children: Raven (24), Reuben (22), Miles (19), Edith (17), Violet (15), Sidney (14), Annas (12), Clementine (10), and Nancy (9). In September of last year, Amanda offered insight into their ongoing relationship, noting that while separated, they remain closely connected through their work on Ravenseat Farm in Swaledale.
She shared with The Mirror, 'I'm surrounded by people and obviously, one of them is Clive who I'm separated from, but sometimes it feels like I'm not.' Amanda humorously added, 'Like this morning, when I thought, "Why are your socks on the floor?" If we were all under one roof in a tiny space, we probably would've killed each other.' She explained that their spacious farm setting, with 'a lot of fields between us,' helps manage their differences.
Addressing Public Speculation
The couple's separation became public in June 2022 through a joint social media statement, where they described it as a 'difficult decision' made for the future of their family. They assured followers, 'Although we are no longer a couple, we continue to work on the farm and co-parent together with our number one priority the happiness and well-being of our children.' They requested privacy during this challenging period.
This announcement followed months of village gossip in Swaledale about their marriage. In October of the previous year, they had issued a statement acknowledging a 'rocky patch' but denying a separation, emphasising, 'We've never said our marriage is perfect.' They attributed part of their struggles to media intrusion, stating, 'Unfortunately the constant intrusion into our lives from the media has amplified a rocky patch that we're going through.'
Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids continues to air on Mondays at 9pm on More4, showcasing their farm renovation projects and family life.
