All Creatures Great and Small's beloved vet Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) may be set for a romantic storyline in the upcoming new season of the Channel 5 period drama. The series, based on James Herriot's books about his life as a vet in Yorkshire, is expected to pick up from the 2025 Christmas special, which saw the return of Dorothy (Maimie McCoy).
Dorothy's Return and Romantic Potential
Dorothy first appeared in the first season as a friend of Mrs. Hall (Anna Madeley), catching Siegfried's attention and leading to charmingly awkward moments. The pair shared a kiss before Dorothy left for Malta. During her absence, some fans speculated that Siegfried might end up with Mrs. Hall, but Dorothy's return at Christmas brought another kiss beneath the mistletoe at The Drovers, hinting at a possible romance.
McCoy told Radio Times about the on-screen relationship: "There's lots that connect them, which I think is really lovely." She added that while the romance with Siegfried was interesting, her connection with Mrs. Hall was particularly special: "I think sometimes that gets overlooked because we want to focus on the romance, but they've been in the Wrens together, they've gone through a huge amount in terms of their journey as women through and past the war, so to go back and to give that more depth and to show more was really, really quite special."
Series 7 and 8 Confirmed
All Creatures Great and Small has been confirmed for a double commission of series 7 and 8, each comprising six one-hour episodes plus Christmas specials. A broadcast date is yet to be announced, but filming has been underway for some time. With new series arriving annually since 2020, season seven could premiere soon.
