24 Hours in Police Custody is returning with a two-part special, with the first episode airing tomorrow (August 30) at 9pm on Channel 4. The new instalment, titled 24 Hours in Police Custody: The Ambush, brings the hit true crime series back after a long spell of repeats.
Case of a seriously injured teenager
The episode centres on the case of a 17-year-old boy seriously injured by the road, which sparked an investigation as police attempted to work out whether it was a random incident or if there was more to the case than first met the eye.
According to a synopsis shared by Channel 4: "With few witnesses willing to talk, detectives turn to a network of CCTV cameras to uncover the truth."
"Grainy footage captures key moments: a suspicious meeting, a waiting vehicle, and masked men emerging with baseball bats before chasing their victims. Piece by piece, the footage transforms a baffling case into evidence of a planned ambush, helping police to track the vehicles involved."
Fans react to the return
The broadcaster had been teasing viewers that new episodes were on the way in a series of Facebook posts. One post showed a photo of a notebook left on a table with a post-it note attached that read: "24H in Police Custody title: The Ambush, two-parter? Air date?"
Fans have called it one of the best true crime shows on TV. One excited viewer remarked: "Everyone in the UK will drop what they're doing and be glued to the TV for this. It's become the great British television icon."
A second penned: "This is by far my favourite TV programme. No other true crime compares to it. If anyone knows of anything in this league please tell me."
"So glad waited too long," a third fan said under news of the new episodes, as another commented: "Superb programme. Never enough episodes in the series."
Second episode date
Fans face a wait for the second half of the two-part special, which will air the following Sunday (September 6), again at 9pm on Channel 4.
