Gardeners' World Faces Backlash: Fans Call Show 'Unwatchable'

Gardeners' World has been flooded with complaints after the latest episode, which featured Frances Tophill and Dame Mary Berry, was branded 'unwatchable' by some viewers. The Friday night (August 7) instalment saw Frances return to Damson Farm in Bath to spend the day with the owner and the celebrated cook.

Viewers Express Frustration

During the episode, Mary, who grew up and went to school in Bath, shared how the local landscapes sparked her lifelong passion for gardening. The duo also offered practical tips, including creating a wildlife-friendly wild corner and collecting seeds.

However, not all feedback was positive. One viewer fumed on social media: "Utter patronising garbage again. Channel 4 take note. New gardening show required. #gardenersworld." Another echoed: "Utterly patronising presenter alert.. If in doubt, draft in Mary B! Unwatchable #gardenersworld." A third added: "Dull isn’t it."

Mixed Reactions from Fans

Some viewers pointed to a perceived decline in standards, with one writing: "#gardenersworld It's getting sh****er by the week." Another expressed fatigue: "Anyone else tired of being lectured by #GardenersWorld? Wildlife. I know about it already. Careful with water. Yup, I’m there. Peat free? Got it."

Yet many fans defended the show. One wrote: "Doesn't Mary look fabulous. Really enjoyed tonight's programme. Great bunch of presenters. No preaching just proper gardening and interesting clips." Another agreed: "Another lovely programme tonight team #GardenersWorld Frances is so good at keeping everything going and we had the very elegant Dame Mary Berry to entertain us, that food at the end looked delicious. Keep gardening and see you next time."

Mary, an avid gardener, recently appeared on the Grow, Cook, Eat, Arrange podcast to discuss evergreens and lawns.
