Candice Warner, the wife of Australian cricket star David Warner, has announced her intention to make a significant return to the airwaves, targeting 2026 as the year to reignite her professional ambitions.
A New Chapter as Family Life Evolves
The former Ironwoman, now 40, explained that with her three daughters – Ivy, 11, Indi, nine, and Isla, six – all "thriving" at school, she feels the time is right to refocus energy on her own career path. Speaking to Confidential, Warner expressed a clear desire to dive back into the competitive world of commercial radio.
"I love radio. That is the one I've always felt most comfortable in," Candice stated. She described the medium as more authentic, laid back, and fun compared to other media, confirming it remains her preferred platform and a key professional goal.
Navigating a 'Cutthroat' Industry
Despite her enthusiasm, Warner is under no illusions about the challenges ahead. She characterised the radio sector as "so cutthroat," highlighting industry trends like syndication and cost-cutting that make securing a role difficult. "There might be someone broadcasting out of Melbourne and it's syndicated into Sydney. Everyone's trying to cut costs," she noted.
However, the determined personality, who first competed professionally in Ironman events at age 14, is undeterred. She admitted it would be "really hard" to get a job but emphasised her goal-driven nature. Candice believes she is a "better person to be around and a better mum" when she has a professional target to strive for.
A Budding Radio Career and Alternative Dreams
Warner's radio journey began in earnest in 2022 with guest spots on various Triple M Sydney programmes. Her roles included filling in for Wendell Sailor on The Rush Hour and co-hosting the station's Summer Breakfast show, a position she returned to in 2023. She also served as a co-host on Triple M's Dead Set Legends alongside Dan Ginnane and Richard Freedman.
In a 2022 interview with Media Week, she reflected on her long-held media aspirations, saying, "The more radio that I've done, the more I feel really comfortable and now I know that's my place."
In a surprising revelation to the Daily Mail in August, Candice disclosed that if her professional athletic career hadn't begun at 14, she would have likely pursued a vocation as a veterinarian. Nonetheless, she feels her life's core values of family, activity, and friendship would have remained unchanged.
Candice and David Warner welcomed their first child in 2014 and married a year later, balancing family life with their respective public careers.
