Comedian Aaron Chen has relocated to New York after a breakout period that saw him win a Logie award and land roles in Hollywood productions. The 30-year-old Australian star, known for his offbeat humour, says the ABC sitcom Fisk 'changed my life' by introducing him to a wider audience in both Australia and the United States.
Chen moved to the US in August 2023, the same month Fisk premiered on Netflix. He was surprised to find a small but enthusiastic fanbase already waiting for him, with people attending his shows in places like Burlington, Vermont. His rise has been swift: he won the Logie for best comedy actor in 2025 for his role in Fisk, and has since appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers and filmed his first feature film, The Dink, produced by Ben Stiller and starring Jake Johnson.
Chen's Netflix special Funny Garden, filmed in New York, draws on his outsider perspective as a Chinese-Australian living in the US. The special debuted in Netflix's top 10 in Australia. Despite his Hollywood success, Chen says the highlights of his career remain his standup comedy tours, which he has been honing since winning the Class Clowns national competition at age 16.
His early career included a stint hosting the absurdist spoof show John Conway Tonight on ABC's digital channel at age 22, which he describes as 'a big time of growing up' that taught him about the industry. He now balances live comedy with acting roles, including an upcoming HBO comedy series Make That Movie alongside fellow Australian Sam Campbell.
