Peter Andre has won his libel case against the Sunday newspaper The People, accepting substantial undisclosed damages over claims he made inappropriate sexual advances to another woman while still in a relationship with his estranged wife Katie Price.
The Australian singer left the High Court in London today after MGN Ltd, the newspaper's owner, apologised and admitted the allegations were untrue. MGN also agreed to pay Andre's legal costs.
Andre's solicitor Mike Brookes told the court that his client had briefly met the woman, Shira Jones, at a nightclub and gave her friend permission to photograph them together. 'These allegations were very upsetting and offensive to Mr Andre, as they are untrue,' Brookes said.
Reading a statement outside court, Andre said: 'I have never been unfaithful to my wife, not with this girl or with anyone else. I'm pleased that the Sunday People have now accepted that their story was untrue and hurtful to myself.'
Andre and Price announced their separation in May after less than four years of marriage. They have two children together, and Andre is stepfather to Price's son from a previous relationship.
