A woman in China has fulfilled her 96-year-old grandmother's lifelong dream of wearing a wedding dress by posing for bridal photos with her, standing in for her late grandfather. Wang Na, 40, from Nanjing, arranged the shoot after learning her grandmother had never had the chance to wear a wedding gown or take nuptial pictures.
Ms Wang, who works at a local technology company, said her grandmother met her grandfather at age 16 and married him, but he was a soldier who served for long periods, leaving her to raise their four children alone. The grandmother never had a wedding dress due to financial constraints at the time.
Inspired by seeing another elderly couple's wedding photo online, Ms Wang decided to surprise her grandmother. She contacted a photo studio without her grandmother's knowledge and on the day of the shoot, told her they were visiting Ms Wang's father. Instead, the grandmother found a photographer and a wedding dress waiting.
Initially nervous, the 96-year-old soon relaxed and was delighted with the results. Ms Wang said her grandmother's eyes brightened when she saw the pictures, and she could not believe how beautiful they were. Ms Wang wrote an emotional 'love letter' to her grandmother on social media, saying she wished to capture all her beauty with still frames.
The photos have gone viral online, but Ms Wang insists she only did what she should have done as a grandchild. 'I cannot replace my grandfather, but in this manner, I hope she could find the taste of love again,' she said. The pictures will be kept as a family heirloom.
