BBC journalist Naga Munchetty left her colleague red-faced during the latest episode of BBC Breakfast as she called out his casual wardrobe choice live on air. The 51-year-old presenter appeared alongside co-host Charlie Stayt, 63, on the morning news show on May 23, but things took an awkward turn when she chatted with Matt Tebbutt about what viewers could expect on Saturday Kitchen Live.
Appearing via video link wearing a black T-shirt, Matt was keen to inform viewers of the upcoming show, but Naga stopped him in his tracks. She said, "Oh casual today! The sun's out, eh!" Looking embarrassed, Matt explained that he only had 30 seconds to get ready and didn't have time to change before appearing on camera.
Naga then asked, "Sorry, what time did you get in this morning? I thought you start early?" Matt replied, "Half past five or six, something like that!" Naga interjected, "So for four hours, there was no time to put something smart on?" Despite Matt trying to move on, Naga continued, "Nice deflection, so you had four hours and all you could do is get that T-shirt on, eh?"
Charlie chimed in, saying, "I'm intrigued by the wardrobe situation myself. There is a wardrobe department there?" Jumping to Matt's defence, drinks expert Helen McGinn, who was sitting beside him in the Saturday Kitchen studio, explained that he had been working tirelessly and his black T-shirt and jeans combo was his "rehearsal" outfit. Replying to Helen's comment, Naga said, "Helen, you do remember how mean Matt is to you sometimes, don't you?"
During the regular crossover between BBC Breakfast and Saturday Kitchen, the presenters often share light-hearted banter, teasing each other about their hosting styles, programme schedules, and even their outfit choices. Last week, Naga took a cheeky swipe at Matt after he was replaced by chef and food writer Donal Skehan. As Donal joked how Saturday Kitchen had "got rid" of much-loved frontman Matt, Naga bluntly said, "Well done." Donal jokingly added, "Finally, finally. He'll be thrilled to hear that."
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
