Commuters in central London were left bewildered this morning after spotting a man crawling on all fours while being led by a woman on a dog lead. The pair were seen in Farringdon at around 8.30am, with the man dressed in a shirt and tie, while his companion wore a blouse, high heels and carried a purple handbag.
Ian Jeffery, who witnessed the scene, posted a picture on Twitter with the message: "Did we really just see this outside work? A woman walking a man like a dog on a lead in #Farringdon #London #bizarre." The post quickly went viral, with other users sharing their own photographs using the hashtag #manonleash, and ITV media circulating a video of the incident.
Social media users were quick to speculate about the motive. Some suggested it was a publicity stunt, while others proposed less charitable explanations. Media Brand UK tweeted: "50 Shades of Grey auditions taking place in Farringdon this morning." Claire Hodson wrote: "Surely this is a PR stunt or did this guy cheat on his partner and this is payback."
As yet, no individual or organisation has come forward to claim responsibility for the unusual display. The pair reportedly continued their walk without acknowledging the attention they attracted.
