Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham was the target of an alleged attack in Santa Monica on Wednesday, when a woman reportedly threw an unknown substance at him before fleeing. The 76-year-old musician was entering a building when the incident occurred, according to police.
Officers from the Santa Monica and Los Angeles police departments are investigating. No arrests had been made by Wednesday afternoon, but police said they have identified the woman involved. Authorities believe Buckingham is familiar with her following previous incidents, and that she may have tracked his movements in advance.
Buckingham was not injured in the attack. Representatives for the musician have been contacted for comment.
The incident follows earlier concerns over Buckingham's safety. In 2024, he sought a permanent restraining order, citing fears for his life due to a woman who had allegedly harassed his family since 2021. A temporary order had required the individual to stay at least 100 yards away from Buckingham, his wife Kristen, and their son William.
Court documents revealed that the woman had obtained Kristen's phone number and called her repeatedly, sometimes dozens of times a day. Buckingham alleged she left lengthy messages containing threats and claims that she was his daughter. He stated in the filing: 'She also blamed me for facial deformities she apparently suffered as a child and demanded money.' He added: 'I do not know [the woman] and I am not her father.'
Police had warned the woman to cease contact in 2022, but Buckingham said the behaviour resumed in 2024, including a collage of the woman's face being left at his home. She later appeared at one of his properties in Los Angeles. It remains unclear whether Wednesday's attack is connected to the earlier allegations.
