Danny Dyer has potentially landed himself in legal hot water after revealing he keeps a metal cosh at home for protection. The 47-year-old actor made the admission on the latest episode of his podcast, Live and Let Dyers, which he co-hosts with his daughter Dani.
During the episode released on Wednesday, the former EastEnders star warned burglars to stay away from his property, stating he would be waiting for them with a 'spring cosh'. He also claimed to have gifted a similar weapon to Dani's fiancé, West Ham United footballer Jarrod Bowen.
Danny said: 'Shout-out to all you burglars out there because by the time this airs I'll be back. And I've got a naughty dog called Debbie. And I'm belled up to f***.' He added: 'Don't try and sniff round my gaff when this is out because I'll be waiting for you with a spring cosh - which is my favourite weapon of choice when I'm in [my home].'
Dani, 28, appeared to confirm the gift, saying: 'You give that to Jarrod.' Danny replied: 'No, I've got another one. I did give one to Jarrod - a spring cosh. It was one of my early presents to him because he's very protective of you.' He described his own weapon as 'pure metal, almost like a police baton'.
Possession of extendable batons is outlawed under the Offensive Weapons Act 2019. A lawyer told The Sun: 'This is not a wise thing to admit so freely. If someone's first act when an intruder broke in was to attack them with a cosh, and not ask them to leave, the prosecution would be within their rights to say it was not a reasonable response.'
