A bride who canceled her October wedding due to the pandemic says she is being 'harassed and threatened' by a bridesmaid who demanded cash for a dress that could be returned. The unnamed woman shared her story on Reddit's 'Am I The A**hole' forum, explaining that she and her husband eloped with only their parents present to avoid a large gathering.
The bride wrote that most of the wedding party was supportive, but one bridesmaid, a former friend of the groom, 'went ballistic' upon hearing the news. The bridesmaid allegedly sent abusive messages and demanded the couple pay her $140 for her dress, even though the bridal shop was offering full refunds due to the pandemic.
The bride stated that all other bridesmaids returned their dresses, but this woman refused and instead threatened legal action. 'She’s threatening to take me to civil court to make me pay for her dress,' the bride wrote, adding that she 'refuses to give her the money because she knows it can be returned'.
Reddit users sided with the bride, suggesting the bridesmaid might have damaged the dress or was in financial trouble. The bride noted that the bridesmaid and her husband have had employment issues, but she had explained the refund process to them.
