Will Best's 'Ridiculous' Home Purchase Sparks Major Fiancée Argument

Will Best, the Wandsworth-born presenter of Big Brother, has candidly shared details of a 'ridiculous' purchase for his home that caused a serious rift with his fiancée. In a revealing interview on the finance podcast Spent, in association with Nationwide, the 41-year-old also disclosed why he pays his colleague Fleur East one pound every week.

The Miniature Model Home That Caused Chaos

Speaking to host and long-time friend Matt Edmonson, Best explained how, after buying a new home with his fiancée, he saw a targeted social media advert for a miniature model house. This item is designed to help plan furniture layouts and room formats. Describing it as similar to Lego but 'less user-friendly', Best joked that the set, upon arrival, was a 'shambles' and a complete waste of money. He admitted he had 'had a drink' when he splashed out on the purchase.

'The board isn't big enough and is also too big, nothing kind of seems to fit together,' he quipped, leaving Edmonson in stitches. However, the humour quickly faded at home. 'It caused quite a big argument with my fiancée because as soon as it arrived she was like, 'why have you bought this? Not only is it a waste of money, it's a waste of space'.'

He added: 'She got really cross because she was like, 'we've bought a house, we're starting the next phase of our lives together, we're getting married - and it worries me that you're such an idiot that you would spend so much money on something so obviously useless'.'

The Quirky £1 Weekly Payment to Fleur East

In the same podcast episode, Best revealed another trivial yet amusing expense: a payment plan of £1 per week to his fellow radio show host, Fleur East. The pair present Hits Radio Breakfast alongside James Barr. Best described a segment of the show where they play games with callers.

'Somebody gave an answer on this game we were playing and I thought they were right, the others thought they were wrong. Off air, I said to Fleur, 'I bet you a million pounds that this guy said this exact word'. She said, 'I bet he didn't'.' When the show's producer replayed the clip, Best was proven wrong - leaving him in significant, albeit humorous, debt to his co-presenter.

'I set up a payment plan and now I'm paying Fleur East a pound a week. It comes out every Tuesday,' he said, highlighting the light-hearted nature of their professional relationship.

Background on Will Best's Career and Mental Health Struggles

Will Best has previously been praised for opening up about his mental health struggles. Last year, in an appearance on Loose Women, he discussed his near-lifelong battle with anxiety. Panellist Jane Moore noted: 'It's a very strange career you've gone for, given the general anxiety about a lot of things...'

Best confessed: 'I don't know why I did it, the busier I've got... the last couple of years have been amazing. But I do now live in a permanent state of terror.' He explained fears about his career ending, negative comments, and 'general anxiety'.

He added: 'I've always had issues with anxiety. But this has massively heightened it. I'm waiting for it to subside. To get easier. But maybe it won't.' The TV star took on the role of Big Brother host when the popular ITV show was rebooted in 2023.

Before this major presenting role, Best decided to undergo therapy. 'Before the launch of the first Big Brother reboot series, I got EPMD theory, I did it for a specific reason. It's a specific thing for overcoming, not general anxiety, focused anxiety.' He shared that his biggest fear on launch night was getting a dry mouth, and the therapy helped him avoid it.

Best believes he has suffered with anxiety since childhood, including health anxiety. 'I remember as a kid, as what I discovered what cancer was, and I was like oh that sounds bad oh no I'm going to get that,' he told the panel. 'It's always been bubbling away. The health anxiety thing I've been wanting to get a hand on.'
