Sir Tom Jones has returned to the stage in Los Angeles following a recent health scare that forced him to postpone several dates of his Come Gather Round tour. Performing at The Greek Theatre on November 4, one of the shows rescheduled from late October, the 86-year-old singer from Treforest addressed the crowd and expressed his relief at being back singing.
The audience cheered as Sir Tom thanked the medical staff at UCLA medical centre, where he received treatment. He told fans he spent a week in hospital and was determined to get back to performing.
Message to fans at The Greek Theatre
"I must say this, at UCLA they did a wonderful job, so I'm here..." said Tom. "They said 'well what do you want to do now?' as I was in there for a week, I said 'I've got to get back on the stage!'"
"This is where I belong, I can't live without it, believe me. That's the truth."
He also noted that he first performed at the LA venue almost 60 years ago, in 1969, and was met with further applause from the crowd.
Postponed tour dates
The postponements came after Sir Tom said he had "unexpectedly been hit with a bad case of the flu." He apologised and said he was following his doctor's advice. Last week he shared on Instagram that his shows on October 31 at Hard Rock Live Sacramento, CA and November 1 at The Masonic, San Francisco, CA would be postponed until further notice, adding that further updates would be shared as soon as possible.
His gig at The Greek followed the November 3 performance at Rady Shell, San Diego, which was rescheduled from October 27. He is now due to perform on November 6 at Highland's Taamava Theatre.
The return to the stage came after Sir Tom's act, Cate McHugh, was announced as the winner of the 2026 series of The Voice UK.
