Taylor Swift was honoured with the Icon Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Thursday night in New York, becoming the youngest woman to receive the accolade at 36 years old. The event, held at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, saw Swift deliver a 21-minute acceptance speech in which she became emotional while thanking her family for their sacrifices.
During her speech, Swift recalled how her parents and brother relocated the family from Pennsylvania to Nashville to support her songwriting career. 'You're the reason I'm here tonight,' she said, struggling to express her gratitude. She also thanked Steven Spielberg, who introduced her, despite his film 'Disclosure Day' premiering at midnight. Spielberg's wife, Kate Capshaw, told Swift: 'Good and true things are easy.'
Swift is the second-youngest inductee in the Hall of Fame's history, after Stevie Wonder who was inducted at 32 in 1983. The 2026 class also includes Alanis Morissette, Kenny Loggins, and members of Kiss, among others. Swift attended with her fiancé Travis Kelce and their mothers.
The singer-songwriter's busy week included a surprise performance at the 'Toy Story 5' premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday and attending the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, supporting the New York Knicks against the San Antonio Spurs.
