Taylor Swift reveals details of relationship and music catalogue buyback on podcast

Taylor Swift appeared on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason, and opened up about how Kelce’s public declaration of interest in dating her came about. Two years ago, Kelce used the podcast to announce he wanted to date Swift after failing to get her attention at her Eras tour show. Swift described it as a “wild, romantic gesture” but joked that Kelce never did any proper logistical planning to meet her.

On the subject of intense public speculation about their relationship, Swift said she has been in the music industry for 20 years and it is “pretty hard to hurt my feelings at this point”. Kelce added that he learned from his girlfriend “how to be a pro about it”. The pair said finding humour in the situation helps.

Swift also discussed the physical demands of the Eras tour, explaining that part of her preparation involved running full speed on a treadmill while singing the entire show. She noted similarities with Kelce’s football career, saying she was not getting hit by 300-pounders but the heels cause similar aches. Kelce remarked, “She does more than I do.”

In a particularly emotional segment, Swift revealed she had bought back the master recordings to her first six albums, which were sold to Scooter Braun and later to Shamrock Capital. She said she had been saving since she was a teenager and sent her mother and brother to negotiate rather than lawyers, because she wanted to convey the emotional significance. She cried as she recounted the struggle to regain control of her catalogue.
