A new taco creation with a Scottish twist at a Finnieston pub has impressed a Glasgow food writer, who says it is one of the best things she has eaten in the city this year. The Islay Inn on Argyle Street, known for live Scottish folk music, now offers a Tattie Scone Tacos Tuesday deal.
Three tacos for £12 every Tuesday
The deal includes three tacos made from potato scones for £12 and runs every Tuesday from 12 to 8pm. It can be upgraded to £15 with a bottle of Corona or Desperados beer, or a shot of Rooster Rojo or smoked pineapple tequila.
The menu features five filling options: tequila battered smoked haddock, sticky chilli and Irn Bru chicken, Stornoway black pudding and Ramsey's haggis, smoked cauliflower and butter bean puree, and venison Buckfast chilli.
Scottish-themed flavours impress
The writer ordered the three most patriotic flavours, sticking with the Scottish theme. She also chose a portion of truffle and Parmesan fries as a side.
The tacos arrived packed with fillings. The sticky chilli and Irn Bru chicken taco, served with sweet peppers and ranch, was her favourite. The venison Buckfast chilli, with pickled cabbage and sour cream, also impressed with a spicy kick.
The Stornoway black pudding and Ramsey haggis taco, with caramelised onion and pepper sauce, was packed with chunks of black pudding, but the writer felt it lacked a different flavour to break up the overpowering taste of the haggis and sauce.
Filling and flavoursome
The Parmesan and truffle fries were flavoursome, but the writer advised that a side is probably not necessary as the three tacos alone were very filling.
Calling the creation revolutionary might be slightly dramatic, the writer said, but it is one of the best things she has eaten in Glasgow this year, recommending Scots try the beloved tattie scone in a new way.
