Royal Mint Launches Spice Girls Coins to Mark 30th Anniversary
Spice Girls Coins Released by Royal Mint for 30th Anniversary

The Royal Mint has delighted Spice Girls enthusiasts by launching a special series of commemorative coins, celebrating three decades since the iconic girl group first burst onto the music scene. Anticipating substantial interest from fans worldwide, the Mint described the release as a tribute to the band's enduring legacy of girl power and chart-topping success.

Commemorating a Pop Phenomenon

These collectable £5 denomination coins have been crafted to honour the 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls' debut single Wannabe and their groundbreaking album Spice. Artist Ffion Rees designed the coins, which feature silhouettes of all five band members striking dynamic poses alongside their authentic autographs, evoking a strong sense of 1990s nostalgia and fandom.

A First for Music Legends Collection

In an innovative move for the Royal Mint's "music legends" series, collectors can now select their favourite Spice Girl through five distinct packaging designs for the brilliant uncirculated colour versions. Each packaging option highlights an individual member: Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell-Horner (Ginger Spice), and Melanie Brown (Scary Spice).

Lucy Mackenzie, Director of Digital and Product Concept at the Royal Mint, expressed excitement about the release. "The Spice Girls didn't just dominate pop music; they defined the 1990s," she stated. "Now, for the first time, fans and collectors everywhere can own a piece of that legacy. The unique packaging celebrating each Spice Girl makes it one of our most collectable music legends releases."

Limited Edition Appeal

Each of the five packaging designs is strictly limited to only 15,000 coins globally, enhancing their rarity and collectability. The Royal Mint collaborated closely with the band and Bravado, Universal Music Group's brand management division, to meticulously curate the designs and ensure authenticity.

The Spice Girls themselves released a statement acknowledging the honour. "It's a huge honour for us to be celebrated by the Royal Mint and follow in the footsteps of some true music icons," they said. "2026 marks a special year for us as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our debut single and album. We could never have imagined that we would be recognised in this way – the first female group to be given their very own coin… what a moment for girl power."

Pricing and Availability

The collection became available for purchase on the Royal Mint's website from 9am on March 3, 2026. Prices start at £18.50 for a brilliant uncirculated coin and £29.50 for a colour version. For those seeking premium options, gold and silver versions are also offered, including a 2oz gold proof coin with a £200 denomination priced at £10,535.

This release joins the Royal Mint's esteemed music legends coin series, which previously featured artists such as Freddie Mercury, Sir Elton John, David Bowie, George Michael, Dame Shirley Bassey, and Sir Paul McCartney. With its blend of nostalgia, limited availability, and celebratory design, the Spice Girls coins are poised to attract both dedicated fans and serious numismatists looking to enhance their collections.
