Sharon Osbourne has said she will “never get over” the death of her husband, Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy Osbourne, and revealed she visits his grave every day. Ozzy died of a heart attack at the age of 76 last year.
Final moments together
Speaking to the BBC, Sharon described the hours before his death, recalling that Ozzy had woken in the night and asked her to kiss him twice, which she did. He then said, “Hold me, hold me tight,” and she complied.
The couple had been together for more than 50 years and shared three children: Aimee, 43; Kelly, 41; and Jack, 40. Ozzy was also a father to Jessica, Louis and adopted son Elliot from his previous marriage to Thelma Riley.
Coping with grief
Sharon opened up about the ongoing nature of her grief, explaining that losing the love of your life is not something you simply recover from. She said, “You never get over it. But you learn to live with it, and that’s what I’m trying to do. So you either sit in a room and don’t come out, or you accept it, befriend it, and that’s it.”
She also explained her decision to bury Ozzy in a private cemetery, saying there was no way she could put him in a public graveyard. She cited the lack of peace for public figures, as people want to come and pay their respects, and said she wanted Ozzy to “rest and just be.”
Legacy of the Prince of Darkness
Ozzy died weeks after his farewell concert in his hometown of Birmingham. Black Sabbath formed in Birmingham in 1968 and became one of the most successful heavy metal bands of all time, with Ozzy known as the “Prince of Darkness.”
