Scissor Sisters have announced they are reuniting for new music and a tour, 14 years after their last album. The news was revealed at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, where the band received the Music Icon award. Frontman Jake Shears, guitarist Del Marqui and bassist BabyDaddy are joined by current members Bridget Barkan and Amber Martin.
The band last released an album in 2011 before going on hiatus. During their peak, they scored ten UK Top 40 singles and two number one albums, including hits like 'I Don't Feel Like Dancin'', 'Take Your Mama' and 'Filthy/Gorgeous'. Their reunion follows a successful summer tour in 2024.
Jake Shears said: 'Scissor Sisters has always been about coming as you are, coming together and celebrating what it means to be a human being. We’re back in the studio making new music after a long time and the next chapter feels like it’s well under way.' He also joked about the band's ageing, telling the crowd: 'The most incredible thing about being back here after all these years is how little we’ve aged.'
Former vocalist Ana Matronic is not involved in the reunion. She explained on Instagram that her commitments to a history podcast and other projects prevented her from joining. 'With contracts signed and schedules agreed on these commitments, the timing of a Scissor reunion does not allow me to join my former bandmates for this tour,' she wrote.
During his acceptance speech, Shears also addressed the UK's support for the band, noting that their Glastonbury 2024 slot clashed with Charli XCX and Doechii. 'The UK’s been a place that has made us feel so loved and accepted,' he said. 'Ironically though, the most homophobic thing that has ever happened in our career here was at Glastonbury this year — putting us against Charli XCX and Doechii.'
