Scarlett Thomas, 16, Skips GCSEs to Pursue Music Career

Scarlett Thomas, the 16-year-old daughter of Coronation Street stars Ryan Thomas and Tina O'Brien, has launched a music career after skipping her GCSEs this summer. She shared a cover of Sienna Spiro's hit 'Maybe' on social media on Monday, showcasing her vocals from a recording studio.

Her mother Tina, 42, and uncles Scott Thomas, 37, and Adam Thomas, 37, commented on the post, praising her performance. Scarlett frequently posts singing videos on TikTok and has expressed a desire to follow her family into the entertainment industry.

Scarlett first appeared on television in 2023 in the BBC drama Waterloo Road, playing the daughter of her real-life uncle Adam. Despite her family connections, her father Ryan has insisted she is not receiving a 'free ride' and worked hard to secure her role.

With over 204,000 TikTok followers and 142,000 on Instagram, Scarlett is predicted to earn up to £2 million before her 18th birthday. PR expert Lynn Carratt noted that the Thomas family effectively uses social media to build careers, capitalising on trends and showcasing talent to a huge audience.

Carratt added that Scarlett appears confident and likeable, and she could potentially join a girl band in the future. Ryan Thomas previously defended his daughter's start in the industry, stating she faces the same audition process as others.
