Pope Leo has revealed his favourite toppings on a hotdog. The pontiff, 70, has been known for his penchant for an American classic, with devoted Catholics even shipping his favourite pizza from Chicago on dry ice. But he recently told worshippers outside the Vatican that he likes 'mustard and ketchup' on his hotdog.
One worshipper said to the first American pope, previously known as Cardinal Robert Prevost: 'Being from Chicago you've had more hot dogs than any hope in history.' The pontiff then amusingly replied 'only with mustard' before quickly correcting himself to say 'mustard and ketchup'. His comments have clearly been picked up by his followers, with one throwing a stuffed hotdog toy towards Pope Leo, who appears to try and catch it.
A History of Culinary Preferences
Last summer, the Chicago native was given a pizza from Aurelio's while riding through Saint Peter's Square in Rome by a 22-year-old Cincinnati resident. Madeline Daley had heard of his alleged love for the classic and told NBC that Pope Leo's face lit up and he smiled 'from ear to ear'.
Social Media Stardom
Earlier this year, the pope became an unexpected social media star and was hailed as a 'style icon' after he was seen sporting Nike sneakers while dressed in his vestments. He was caught stepping out in a pair of white trainers featuring the brand's unmistakable 'swoosh' in a documentary trailer about his life. Many were surprised to see him wearing such casual shoes along with his vestments, and were quick to crack jokes about it. 'The coolest Pope ever,' one user gushed on X.
