Kim Kardashian has faced criticism from animal rights organisation PETA after giving each of her four children a Pomeranian puppy for Christmas. The reality TV star shared a photo on Instagram Stories of the four dogs, captioning it: “Each kid got a puppy.”
PETA CEO Ingrid Newkirk said in a statement to People that puppies are not “plushies” and that Kardashian missed an opportunity to promote shelter adoption. Newkirk suggested that Kardashian could make amends by having her children volunteer at a local shelter or funding a spay day to help address the homeless puppy crisis.
Kim’s sister, Khloé Kardashian, also came under fire after she shared images of a black Labrador retriever puppy named Peppermint, which she had given to her children. Khloé tagged the breeder, and PETA urged her to contact a shelter next time she wants to add a dog to her family.
The Kardashians already own several pets, including Kim’s two Pomeranians, Sushi and Sake, adopted in 2017. Neither Kim nor Khloé has publicly responded to PETA’s comments.
