The world of rock and roll has lost one of its most iconic figures. Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and solo artist known as the 'Prince of Darkness', has passed away at the age of 76.
Osbourne, whose distinctive voice and wild stage presence defined heavy metal music, died peacefully surrounded by family. His decades-long career saw him rise from the gritty clubs of Birmingham to international superstardom.
A Musical Legacy Like No Other
Born in Birmingham in 1948, Osbourne co-founded Black Sabbath in 1968, creating what many consider the first true heavy metal band. Their self-titled debut album in 1970 changed music forever with its dark, heavy sound.
After being fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to substance abuse issues, Osbourne launched an even more successful solo career with hits like 'Crazy Train' and 'Bark at the Moon'. His outrageous behavior, including the infamous bat-biting incident, became the stuff of rock legend.
The Reality TV Years
In later years, Osbourne found new fame through the reality show 'The Osbournes', which showcased his eccentric family life with wife Sharon and children Kelly and Jack. The show ran from 2002 to 2005 and introduced Ozzy to a whole new generation of fans.
Despite numerous health issues in recent years, including Parkinson's disease diagnosis in 2019, Osbourne continued to perform when possible, demonstrating his enduring passion for music and his fans.
Tributes Pour In
Fellow musicians and fans worldwide have been sharing memories and tributes. Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi said, 'Ozzy was the greatest frontman in rock history. There will never be another like him.'
Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon, children Kelly, Jack and Aimee, and numerous grandchildren. Plans for memorial services have not yet been announced.
