Olivia Rodrigo has released the music video for 'Drop Dead', the first single from her upcoming third album 'You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love'. The clip, directed by Petra Collins, sees Rodrigo wandering through the Palace of Versailles, running from room to room before strapping on a pink guitar and performing the song.
The lyrics reference the opulent setting: 'One night I was bored in bed and stalked you on the Internet / It’s feminine intuition because I always had a vision of us standing like this / All pressed up in the bathroom line / You’re looking like an angel on the walls of Versailles.'
Rodrigo's new album is set for release on June 12 via Geffen Records, produced by Dan Nigro, who worked on her previous albums 'Sour' and 'Guts'. Little is known about the album's direction, though fans have noted changes in the background colour on her website and in her 'OR' logo, as well as a mural in Los Angeles and a lock in London bearing the word 'April'.
In an interview with British Vogue, Rodrigo described the creative process: 'It was a creative challenge to write from a joyful place. When you’re experiencing that you’re connected to someone, or feeling really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!'
Before the album's release, Rodrigo will host and perform as musical guest on 'Saturday Night Live' on May 2, marking her hosting debut. She previously appeared on the show as a performer in 2021 and 2023.
