Grammy-nominated musician and producer Sophie Xeon, known mononymously as SOPHIE, has died at the age of 34 following a tragic accident in Athens, Greece. Her record label Transgressive announced the news on Twitter, stating that she 'slipped and fell' while climbing to watch the full moon.
The Scottish artist, who came out as a transgender woman in 2017, was a pioneering figure in electronic music. She worked with high-profile artists including Madonna and Charli XCX, and released her debut album in 2018, earning a Grammy nomination.
In a statement, Transgressive said: 'Tragically our beautiful Sophie passed away this morning after a terrible accident. True to her spirituality she had climbed up to watch the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell. She will always be here with us.' The family has requested privacy at this devastating time.
Tributes have poured in from fellow musicians, including Christine and the Queens, who described Sophie as 'an absolute triumph, both as an artist and as a woman'. Sophie's latest single, UNISIL, was released just two days before her death.
